Research
Alcohol and substance use disorders are substantial
public health problems. The causes of these disorders,
like the traits themselves, are likely to be complex.
Twin and adoption studies have shown that both
environmental and genetic factors influence alcohol and
substance use, dependence, and levels of response. The
goal of our laboratory is to identify the genetic
variations underlying alcohol and substance use, the
consequences of alcohol and substance abuse, and the
responses to treatment.
